Where Faith, Food and Life Converge

Monday Morsels 7.21.14

Last week, it was dusty and hot.  And I wanted rain to cool things down.  Sometimes, you wish for rain and it doesn’t rain.  But then other times, you wish for it, and the rain won’t stop.  And, if you’re like me, you get annoyed that it won’t stop.  Why is that?  Why do we wish for something, and then when it happens, our happiness factor turns on a dime?

Even though He created us and knows our inner being, I suspect God himself is nonetheless frustrated with the way we humans are so easily swayed by our circumstances.

I was thrilled – thrilled, I tell you! – that with the rain, the cooler weather also showed up.  I turned off the air-conditioning, threw open the windows, and relished temperatures (in July, no less) that caused me to pull up the comforter in the middle of the night.  But it kept raining.  It’s still raining.  And I’m tired of it raining.

I’m a bend-in-the-breeze fallible human being.  I tend to like things to operate my way.  Oh sure, I was thankful for the blessing of rain. But too much rain?  Not so much.  I have things to do that depend on the rain clearing away, and it’s a pebble in my shoe that there’s still a downpour outside.

Still, I guess that fact that I recognize my weakness counts for something.  What, exactly, I don’t know…  Maybe I will (eventually) learn to count it all joy in all circumstances….

Here are some things I read this week while I took cover inside:

Ranch dressing on a mission to be bigger than ketchup….

Scorpion venom used as tumor paint helps neurologists pinpoint ALL of the tumor so it can be removed in its entirety

Go ahead, have a cookie and ice cream – Ice Cream Sundae Cookie Cups

Love this garden wall idea

Getting a new phone means new apps, and I just found Slice, which helps track packages (and how much I spend on them!)

Not sure this will happen soon, but I love the idea of going off-grid

Next to read:  Fearless, a recommendation from my sister-in-law

I just bought a bag of Trader Joe’s Cowboy Bark, and then I find this DIY version!  Win!!!

Woke up and saw news about this sinkhole and it reminded me of growing up and watching this sinkhole swallow part of a swimming pool after Disney’s Grad Night!  Ah… memories….

My favorite fruits are stone fruits (fruits with pits) so I will definitely be making this stone fruit salad soon

Sleep for me is 1 step forward, 2 steps back.  Infographic that shows what lack of it does to your body

Interesting article on perception of time

SO doing this next house – disguise your flatscreen in a frame

I didn’t realize until too late that I had tomato blight (apparently I’m not the only one around here though…).  Hopefully this will help next year!
