I’m getting a little behind here lately; the pull of open windows, doing yard work without humidity and heat, and just the general shift of life from carefree summer to knowing that cold weather is just around the corner has me spending as much time outside as I can right now. I few weeks ago I finally got around to finish redoing a 1940’s gossip bench my kids gave me as a gift a few years ago, and since then, I’ve had the bug to refinish about 5 other pieces of furniture. I get this urge about every 5 years or so to repaint or refinish some of the antiques in the house – or maybe it’s just that my furniture shows wear and tear every 5 years – and I guess this must be the year!
And while it’s not quite as satisfying as renewing a piece of furniture, it has been good to get things done outside, like thinning the ivy on the hillside in the front of the house. It was a huge relief to get that done, and now that it is, I feel I can give myself permission to kick up my feet and catch up on reading and maybe watch some of the new fall shows. Speaking of which, what new shows are you looking forward to? I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older, but I’m just not as interested in a lot of the programming on these days. But, if you come across something great, let me in on it!
